Our aim

We want everyone who volunteers or works for an organisation to be able to use Trivet, including with a screen reader, a keyboard, magnification or voice control. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.

How far we have got

The app partly meets WCAG 2.2 AA. It hasn’t yet been audited by an accessibility specialist or tested by disabled users, so we can’t say it fully meets the standard.

What we do now:

  • Every screen is checked with an automated accessibility tool (axe) in our tests, and a change can’t be released if it fails.
  • The main journeys are also checked in a real browser against WCAG 2.1 A and AA, on phone and desktop sizes. Serious problems stop a release.
  • On touch screens, buttons and links are at least 44 by 44 pixels.
  • Links in text are underlined, text and background colours are chosen for contrast, the layout adapts from phone to desktop, and animation is reduced if you ask your device for that.
  • Forms say what went wrong next to the field, and longer forms also list the problems at the top.
  • Sign-in needs no password and no puzzle to solve.

What we know isn’t right yet

  • Automated tools find only some problems. We haven’t yet tested the app by hand with screen readers (such as NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver and TalkBack) or with keyboard-only use on every screen.
  • Our automated browser checks cover WCAG 2.1. Criteria new in WCAG 2.2, such as those on focus being hidden and on dragging, are not yet checked automatically.
  • Colour contrast is checked in the browser tests only, not on every screen.
  • PDF reports, such as the trustee report and vehicle file, are not tagged for screen readers. The trustee report also has a print page in the app, which works with assistive technology.
  • Documents and photos uploaded by organisations may not be accessible. That is up to the organisation that uploads them.

Tell us about a problem

If something is hard to use, or you need information in another format, email hello@trivet.digital. Tell us the screen and what happened. We aim to reply within 2 working days and will tell you when we expect to fix it.
